Hidden resolutions in Intel GMA Driver
There is a way to get hidden resolutions in Windows 7 by hacking the Intel GMA Driver. In order to do this, you’ll have to go deep under the hood into the Registry Editor. The steps are as follows,
- Type Regedit into the search bar or alternatively, press the windows key and R (Win+R) to activate Run
- Search for ‘Display1_DownScalingSupported’
- Once it’s found, double click on it and change the field Value data to 1
- Restart your computer.
Doing this will allow you two new resolutions of 1024×768 and 1152×864. Be forewarned that these are emulated resolutions, which means that they are not supported by your monitor and is in fact an artificial construct of the computer’s imagination. Still, it proves to be useful when playing games such as Civilization III or running the current version of Photoshop (both of which require 1024×768 minimum).

To anyone who’s having trouble finding it on Windows 7 Ultimate…… I got it working on my Packard Bell Dot SC. Here’s where you can find it within regedit:

This’ll be *very* useful for some of the programs out there that just cut off altogether in x600 resolutions, sometimes making them unusable. Nice!
