There are a few ways you can get an optical disc drive to your netbook, since there are those times where you’ll need it, especially when you come across old games which have absolutely no other way to run them except for the good old fashioned way of putting a CD in and installing it from there. Since no netbooks come with a CD/DVD/Blu-Ray disc drive, there are two ways you can get an optical drive onto your netbook.

1. Get an external optical drive

Yes, this is simple.

2. Network an optical disc drive

In order to do this, follow these steps:

Ensure both computers are on the same network and same homegroup

Ensure both computers are on the same Homegroup, add it in if necessary.

On the computer with the physical drive, make sure your optical drive is shared on the network.

Right click on the drive you want to share, and go into Share With. Click Advanced Sharing. If you have the options of sharing over Homegroup, click the option with Read/Write.

Click Advanced Sharing, and tick the “Share this folder” checkbox

Tick “Share this folder”, modify Permissions to Full Control if you are mapping something else.

Go to the netbook and find this drive either on Homegroup or Network -> [name of PC with drive]

Click "Map Network Drive"

Map the network drive to whatever letter you want

Once done, click Finish and you are done.

Done.

All righty, done!
