Looks good? That's because this isn't a screenshot from a netbook

What’s better than Terraria? Well, nothing… unless you prefer Minecraft. Unfortunately, this short post will guarantee you one thing: Minecraft Beta does not play well on a netbook. If you like slideshows, then Minecraft Beta is a great game to try, but otherwise, you’ll be better off playing Terraria if you are seeking a game that is a bit like Minecraft. A bit.

Conclusion

Nope, not playable at all due to very choppy FPS rates. There are some theories that state that due to the fact that Minecraft was programmed in Java, it causes a bit of a resource hog that a netbook just cannot tolerate. There are, conversely, C-based third-party Minecraft spin-offs which might or might not be the answer. Otherwise, avoid wasting your time on Minecraft Beta stock.

Gameplay: Intuitive…

Graphics: Slideshow with moments of flow (5fps – 20fps)

Work needed to get game to play: Can’t be fixed.

To the contrary, I can run Minecraft Beta 1.7.3 fairly well on my netbook (Acer Aspire D250, 1.6GHz Atom, Intel GMA 950) on the lowest settings fairly well. Optifine works wonders, too.

It should be noted that playing in multiplayer can improve performance *significantly*. If you lag in singleplayer, try some sort of a vanilla multiplayer server – so long as they do not have ridiculous buildings, you should see a significant performance improvement.

Actually you can play minecraft on any acer. First press “Create new World” then on that menu press “More World Options”. Turn off “Auto Gen. Structures” and change world type to “SuperFlat” after the world is created change all settings in the options menu to the lowest. (To access the options menu press Esc) also note: turning sensitivities down also helps.

Then you should have a perfect FPS rate! no prob.
